Rev. Gary Benfold

Pastor for Preaching and Teaching

Gary Benfold

Gary Benfold

Gary has been minister at Moordown since 1997 after spending seventeen years pastoring a church in Buckinghamshire. He has a passion for explaining the Bible and its relevance to believers and unbelievers alike and tries to do so in a clear and jargon-free manner. He says ‘I know that Jesus Christ is Lord of the universe and answers the deepest needs of people’s hearts and souls. We all need forgiveness, acceptance and certainty; only Jesus truly gives those things.’

Rev. Jon Pearse

Pastor for Youth and Families

Jon Pearse

Jon Pearse

Jon Pearse was born in Llangollen, North Wales and lived there until April 2002 when he came to Bournemouth to take up this position at Moordown. He studied Food Safety at Salford University and has worked as a Food Technologist for both a large food retailer and food manufacturer, prior to his move south.

Jon has been married to Rachel since 1991 and they now have 3 children – Sam, Claire and Emma. Their fourth child, Lois, died on 15th September 2004, aged 2½ from a brain tumour.  The remembrance service was held at Moordown Baptist Church on 24th September. A recording of the service is available on the Sermons page.

The focus of Jon and Rachel’s work here at Moordown Baptist is with both young people and young families.  Jon and Rachel strongly believe that the Bible is both relevant and vital for every member of the family in every walk of life and in every generation.
